The “E” in Low E is an abbreviation of “Emissivity”, which is a measure of the ability to radiate absorbed energy. Low E glass has a special coating on the glass surface, which reduces the amount of heat transferred through the glass, improving its thermal performance. Som versions of Low-E Glazing also feature Argon Gas further improving thermal performance.

R-values and U-values are both measures of thermal resistance used in building construction, particularly for windows. R-value and U-value are inverse measures of each other. Higher R-values indicate better insulation, while lower U-values indicate better insulation. Both values are important considerations when selecting windows for energy-efficient building design.
